We are looking for an ambitious engineer or scientist with a background in optics or photonics to join us on a 6-month contract. In this role, you will lead the setup of our infrared (IR) characterisation platform for next-generation optoelectronics devices, helping translate cutting-edge research into scalable device technologies. There is potential for extension depending on project needs and performance.
About the role:
You will play a central role in the opto-electronic characterisation of next-generation sensors, with a particular focus on visible and IR measurements. Working closely with device and optics engineers, you will contribute to both hands-on lab work and the development of scalable workflows for advanced device characterisation. You’ll gain hands-on experience with state-of-the-art characterisation tools while collaborating with a highly interdisciplinary team.
What you’ll be doing:
Building an optoelectronic characterisation platform from the ground up with a focus on visible and IR characterisation.
Opto-electronic characterisation of novel sensors and devices, including visible and IR measurements.
Supporting lab infrastructure and operations, including equipment procurement, maintenance, and compliance with health and safety standards.
Producing industry-standard technical documentation.
Communicating technical progress, risks, and results to both internal and external parties.
Requirements:
Postgraduate degree (or equivalent industry experience) in Electrical Engineering, Optical Engineering, Photonics, Nanotechnology, or a related discipline.
Proven hands-on experience in optics and/or electronics characterisation.
Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills, with great attention to detail.
Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a fast-paced, interdisciplinary team.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
What We Offer:
We invest in our people for the long term by creating an environment where engineers are trusted with real responsibility and the space to deliver projects in their own way. As part of our team, you’ll benefit from:
A competitive salary
Ongoing opportunities for professional growth and development
A supportive, collaborative workplace culture
Innovation recognition, by rewarding contributions to new intellectual property and giving visibility to your work
28 days of annual leave including bank holidays
